Man - and I thought the 11 made it stand out in a non-commercial kind of way :D.

Nonetheless, I have to agree with all 10 remaining rules (even though #4 feels unnatural to me, as the tester). I always say that 90% of good usability is common sense. And that goes for all aspects of it - design, testing, implementation, you name it. Unfortunately, common sense is often overlooked in the effort to be as complete and thorough as possible. Your rules put the sense back in common sense.

Great article. I particularly like the point about not making any changes to your product unless you have convergence from multiple tests.

In addition to in-person usability tests is the option of low-cost, low-time web based usability test.

We (at Boost New Media) created IntuitionHQ.com to be able to test a larger group of people quickly and easily using the web. we find this works well with our in-person testing.

I am just completing a project in which we used almost every suggestion here (we did record video but didnt actually use it) which has lead to some significant changes to the content and user experience on the site we are working on. The outcome I expect will be significantly happier users, a happy client and a nice chunk of fee for our agency - can't recommend this approach enough user centered design and feedback loops enough.
